In the summer of 2010, Denis Perreault of Arcane Corporation had just completed the construction of a website for North East Fire & Safety. The owner of North East Fire & Safety, Ray Daniels, was so pleased with his work that he decided to pitch an idea to Denis that he had been thinking about for over a decade. Ray took Denis to breakfast at the his golf club and told him of his idea to create a computer program that would allow a fire equipment dealer to draw and cost a restaurant fire suppression system. The program would be faster than drawing with pencil and paper and much easier and cheaper to use than a generic CAD program, like AutoCAD.
Ray told Denis that he had spoken to other people about doing such a program, but everyone had told him they wanted at least $30,000 upfront to create the program. When Ray asked Denis what his thoughts were, Denis thought about it for a moment. His response was, "I don't want $30,000. I want half of the company." That was exactly what Ray was hoping he would say.
Over the next 3 years, Ray and Denis worked together to develop a program that would be easy to use and could reduce the drawing time to something less than the four hours it typically took to draw a system. Each day Denis road the train into Boston to work his "day job" as a software consultant. His ride was an hour in each direction. Using a laptop and a cellphone (for internet service), Denis wrote FlashPoints during his train ride.
Denis didn't let Ray see what he was working on until he had something workable. But when FlashPoints started to take shape he showed Ray what he had done. The combination of Ray's 45 years in the fire suppression industry and Denis' 30 years of software development experience had come together to create something that went beyond Ray's vision. FlashPoints was not only fast; allowing a person to draw a fire suppression system in minutes. It was also very user friendly and easy to use. In fact, it was so easy, that a 75 year old person with no computer experience could sit down and make drawings almost immediately!
Flash-Soft was started to address the technical needs of the fire suppression industry. Our flagship software, FlashPoints, reduces the design time of restaurant fire suppression systems from hours to minutes.
